Fulani Earrings
Dramatic earrings such as these are known as kwottenai kanye , and worn by married Fulani women in Mopti and Jenne' (Mali). 14 carat gold is traditionally used as a sign of wealth and prestige. This handsome pair was handmade of copper and gilded with gold-wash. The ear wires are traditionally wrapped in red fiber to protect the ear. Much precision and skill is required by the smith to create the elegant curves of this classic design regardless of the metal used. SOLD

Each earring measures 3.5 in. end to end and 1.75 in wide. $175.
