Hmong Baby Carrier
This baby carrier from a Hmong group (Flowered Hmong?) in North Vietnam is a long rectangular form.

It was created by sewing four smaller delightfully ornamental rectangular panels of cotton material together.

It measures 52 in. long x 15.50 in. wide in its entirety with straps which are 52 in. long to securely attach it to the mother’s back. The beautiful homespun cotton ( or possibly hemp) straps that have been patterned with batik and indigo are faded to a lovely soft hue due to age and use.

Two panels feature blue and white batik patterns accented by red cotton appliquéd diamonds, stripes and red cotton borders.

One panel is beautifully embellished by handsome geometric embroidered designs in green, orange and tan.

This is further accented with softly faded red and blue cotton appliquéd stripes and trims on a black cotton ground. An unadorned panel of plain blue cotton probably supported the baby or was not seen when worn.

Overall the carrier is structurally sound and in good condition. Gentle fading and some worn areas from use. $450.
