Traditional tribal textiles are wonders to behold...

Skillful manipulation of warp and weft, spirited extravagance of pattern and color, delightful embellishment of beads, bells, mirrors and coins meld with flotsam from the “modern” world to create powerful personal statements. These ceremonial cloths are worn during important life rituals by tribal peoples throughout the world. To those initiated into the mysteries of the group of origin, textiles tell the life story of the wearer. This could include the level of initiation thus far, marital status, place in society…maiden, mother, warrior, headman, Elder. Some were made especially for all of the rituals of life that create and enhance community such as coming of age celebrations, a wedding, a New Year ritual, a name-giving ceremony for a new baby or as respectful funeral cloth for deceased family members.
