Teaching Buddha Statue

This handsome “Teaching Buddha” from Patan, Nepal depicts a seated Shakyamuni forming the Wheel of Dharma gesture known as the Dharmachakra-Mudra.

This references his first discourse upon the Four Noble Truths in the Deer Park at Sarnath, near Varanasi.It symbolizes that “skillful means” arises from “wisdom” and advocates “teaching from the heart".

He is draped in an elegant, gold-edged robe with silver floral designs and seated on a traditional lotus-throne. The face has been painted with matte gold pigment and lapis pigment covers his hair. Finely painted details of his facial features reflect the style of the Kathmandu Valley and add to the exquisite beauty of this beautifully crafted statue.

Dimensions: Height: 6 inches, Width: 4 inches,  Base Circumference: 11 inches.

Sealed with  copper plate stamped with Double Dorje symbol.
